I mostly write gameplay code — combat, enemy AI, and the systems underneath them. Right now that’s The Hunt, a horror roguelike in Unreal where I’m the only programmer, so the melee combat and the procedural level generation are both mine. Third year at Saxion.
Gameplay programming, mostly. Whatever else the project needs, otherwise.
The part I like is when a messy idea turns into something that holds together — where you can drop in a new weapon or a new enemy without touching the code that already works. Castle Siege is the clearest example: burns and slows are data assets with their own rules, so adding a status effect means authoring an asset rather than editing tower code.
I started in 2020 with a game-development course, kept making things with friends, and enrolled at Saxion in 2023. Since then: four team projects, plus a pile of smaller ones I built to understand something specific — a spider that walks with IK, three maze algorithms running side by side, an OpenGL renderer written to find out what engines were doing for me.
I also spent five months at Artking Studios on a racing-game vertical slice in Unity, writing gameplay code and UI. The useful part wasn’t the code. It was learning how much of the job is working inside someone else’s codebase and finishing things that are nearly done.
